What is Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana (MMUY) is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of Gujarat in 2020. The scheme provides interest-free loans to women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) for starting or expanding micro-enterprises.

This scheme is not for individual applicants. Only registered SHGs with a minimum of 10 women members can avail the loan. The loan is given to the group collectively, and the group receives a collective loan of up to Rs. 1,00,000 (which equates to Rs. 10,000 per member).

The scheme is implemented by the Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company (GLPC) in rural areas and the Gujarat Urban Livelihood Mission (GULM) in urban areas. The Gujarat government pays the interest component directly to the banks on behalf of the SHG, making the loan effectively interest-free for women borrowers.

Benefits of Mukhyamantri Mahila Utkarsh Yojana

Registered SHGs receive the following benefits under MMUY:

Maximum Loan to GroupRs. 1,00,000 (One Lakh) for the entire 10-member SHG
Per Member ShareRs. 10,000 per SHG member

How Interest WorksBanks charge normal interest. Gujarat Government pays the interest directly to the bank.
Repayment PeriodUp to 3 Years (36 Months)

For a 10-member SHG, the maximum collective loan is Rs. 1 lakh. The monthly EMI for a Rs. 1 lakh loan over 36 months is approximately Rs. 2,778 total, which the 10 members contribute to jointly (approximately Rs. 278 per member per month). There is no penalty for early repayment.
