Quick Overview
What is SFAVA?
The Scheme for Financial Assistance for Veteran Artists (SFAVA) is a Central Government initiative run by the Ministry of Culture. It provides monthly financial assistance of up to ₹6,000 to senior artists and scholars aged 60 years and above who have made significant contributions to arts, letters, and culture but face financial difficulties in their later years.
Previously known as the "Scheme for Pension and Medical Aid to Artists" (originating from a 1961 scheme), SFAVA covers disciplines including classical music, Bharatanatyam and other classical dance forms, theatre, visual arts, folk arts, literature, and traditional scholarship. The scheme demonstrates India's commitment to preserving cultural heritage while ensuring the welfare of those who have dedicated decades to artistic excellence. Over 3,600 veteran artists currently benefit from this scheme across India.
